While many heap praise on Barcelona for their attacking style and quick, passing football, Wesley Sneijder believes that the Blaugrana are a lucky team with good individuals.
Wesley Sneijder believes that Barcelona are a team of individuals and have been lucky this season. The Catalan club have been beaten just once and have a 12-point lead over Real Madrid.
The Dutch playmaker, who has struggled for form this term, thinks that the Blaugrana rely heavily on Lionel Messi and have been fortunate in a number of games.
Despite then stating that Barca coach Josep Guardiola has a good team, Sneijder thinks that, while Madrid are a unit, Barcelona are a team of individuals, who have simply had the breaks.
"We are not afraid of playing against Barcelona,” he told AS. “They are doing well but we fear nobody. The difference at Barcelona is Messi. We are a team and they are individuals.
"They do have a lot of quality and, this season, they have a great team. But they are also lucky, as the they showed against Racing the other day.
"This season they are having the luck that we had last term. There are moments when they do not play so well, but they have great individuals and luck."
Sneijder has yet to return to form after recovering from a pre-season injury and he let his frustrations out as he explained that he demands a lot more of himself in games.
"I am not happy because I am not playing at the level that I want to,” he said. “After the injury I have not yet recovered my form from last year and I want to.
"But I am fine. [I am] physically well and training hard but I need to play more games. I know that I can improve and that I have more quality than I am showing now.
"In the last game, against Numancia, I felt better than in previous games because I played in the middle, which is where I prefer.
"I am slightly angry with myself. When I am at home I ask myself what I was doing at this moment or that moment. I tell myself that I am better than [I have shown] and that in the next game I have to improve.
"To be honest, I played well in the European Championships and was then injured for three months. I lost my confidence slightly and I have not played [at my peak] since because I have not found my rhythm."
Sneijder then joked about media reports, which suggest that he has been out late at night and has been in trouble with the police in Spain. While denying those stories, the Dutchman is more upset with what is being said at home.
"It is worse in Holland where they claim I have four girlfriends,” he bemoaned. “I do not care what they publish in Spain because my parents and my family are in Holland and they will not read that.
"But what is published in my country hurts me because they can read that. These things are being made up. I do not go out a lot at night and my team-mates can confirm that." |
